December Update

What's New in Kindergarten?

December Update

It has been a busy few weeks in kindergarten! This month we have been preparing for our winter concert, creating a kindness countdown with our grade 3 buddies and learning together through play in some new centres! In math we have been creating and recording patterns and learning to sort objects into groups 1-10. We also learned to play 1,2,3 FLIP! Can I show you at home? We set a goal to learn all the letters and the sounds that they make. We have started our alphabet bootcamp and can't wait to begin using our letter knowledge to read and write!

Welcome to our Alphabet Bootcamp!

In order for us to become successful readers and writers we must first learn all of the letters in the alphabet and sounds that they make. We are excited to learn them all and can't wait for our alphabet party once we finish! Help me review them and strengthen my knowledge of the letters and the sounds they make by reviewing with me daily!

So far we have learned Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee, Ff, Gg, Hh and Ii.

Things to ask your child about the letters we have learned...

- Can you tell me the sound the letter makes?

- Can you draw pictures that begin with these letters and label them with the correct beginning letter sound? (and if they are ready, the correct end sound)

- Can you identify this letter in books, around the house and in environmental print in the community?

Winter Concert and Carolling: SAVE THE DATE!

In order to accommodate families as we continue to grow in population, our winter concert includes all students in kindergarten to grade 3. (Students in grade 4-6 are planning to showcase their learning in the spring).

Students will perform a rendition of the Nutcracker on Thursday, December 12 at 6:30 p.m. Please bring a food bank donation as admission to the concert. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. at which time students should go directly to their classroom. More information will be shared with each classroom.

Kindergarten students are asked to dress in their best concert attire.

If you are interested in helping School Council create some of the set/props, please email Lea MacKenzie at lamackenzie@cbe.ab.caFamilies are also welcome to join us in the gym for carolling on Tuesday, December 17 at 8:15 a.m. and Thursday, December 19 at 1:45 p.m.
