Journal Writing
Criteria
Another busy week in Kindergarten! We have been learning to
improve the quality and details in our drawing and journalling. We used a
stoplight rubric to ensure we were using on-topic details, colouring with
accurate colours and drawing our people without stick parts! We are a '1' if we use one colour, scribble and only draw a few shapes on the page. We are aiming to reach a '4' and use at least 3 colours, draw a background (with on-topic details) and make sure our people don't have stick parts!
When we compared our writing to the visuals in the classroom, we
realized we needed to add colours that made sense and details that ensured our
audience understood what our picture was about.
For example, this week we drew
pictures of our families. We were encouraged to draw our families doing our
favourite activity together. If cooking and enjoying a meal was their favourite
thing to do together they were encouraged to draw their kitchen table and favourite foods. Some
students drew pictures of their families playing hockey, going to the park or lying on the
trampoline watching the clouds.
We began discussing why we should record and reflect on
our thoughts and daily activities. Why is it important to journal and improve
our drawing and writing skills?
